Mr. Carson practices in the Firm’s Business Section with an emphasis on federal and state securities law, private placement offerings, broker-dealer compliance, alternative investment due diligence, oil and gas law, business transactions, corporate finance, and general corporate law and governance, as well as risk management.

Mr. Carson attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1977; and subsequently he graduated from Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky in 1979, where he was a member of the Law Review and elected to ODK National Honorary Leadership Society.  After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Judge Paul D. Gudgel, Court of Appeals of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Prior to joining Glast, Phillips, Mr. Carson was a partner with the firm of Secore & Waller, L.L.P. in Dallas, Texas.  During his professional career, he has served as general counsel and director of legal affairs for two public reporting exchange-traded companies, Frontier Oilfield Services, Inc. of Dallas, Texas and NGAS Resources, Inc., as Appalachian-based oil and gas exploration company headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky.  In addition, he previously served as President and Chief Compliance Officer for two FINRA broker-dealers, KBR Capital Markets, LLC, Redwood City, California and NGAS Securities, Inc., Lexington, Kentucky, which were both Sponsor-captive broker-dealers that managed alternative investment offerings through independent broker-dealers nationwide.  Previously, he held FINRA Series 7, 24 (securities principal), 63, 79 (investment banking), and 99 registrations.  Early in his legal career, he spent over seven years as a trial attorney with two firms, Sturgill, Turner & Truitt and Fowler, Measle & Bell of Lexington, Kentucky, where he practiced in both state and federal courts.  In addition, he received mediation training at the Dispute Resolution Center, Washtenaw County, Michigan.  In 2007, Mr. Carson received a patent for an invention, U.S. Patent 7,184,979: Dual Accounts Banking System, a computerized banking system for handling dual accounts.

Mr. Carson is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Kentucky Bar Association; and he is admitted to practice before the U. S. District Court, Eastern District of Kentucky, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.  In 2016, he qualified for inclusion in the Texas Bar College, an honorary society of lawyers.

Mr. Carson was born in 1955 and currently resides in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Jessica and their two sons.
